dmpipes:

The box bottoms were glued on, then trimmed on the table saw. I didn’t get any photos… it was pretty straightforward stuff.

After finish sanding the boxes, I was ready to make the slip cases!

This wrapping jig provides a flat smooth surface that glue doesn’t like sticking to, has a flat stop for making straight folds, and a rounded bamboo “squeegee” for pressing the corners tightly and flattening out the faces.

Waterproof glue is used. As it dries, each wrapping will shrink tightly onto its box to make a perfect fit.

The finished covers are incredibly strong and rigid for their thickness and weight. They have a great feel in the hand, kind of like leather. And unlike a box made from a single ply piece of thick card stock, the corners are crisp and thick, so they won’t wear down and tear over time.
